How to travel cheaply to Cinque Terre

Cinque Terre is rarely cheapest as a direct point-to-point trip. The smartest approach is to compare flights into Pisa, Genoa, Milan or Bologna and finish by train through La Spezia.

Pisa and Genoa are often the most practical

Pisa usually has strong low-cost flight coverage and a simple train path toward La Spezia. Genoa can be better for northern itineraries or when flight prices are lower.

Milan and Bologna can unlock cheaper fares

Milan and Bologna are farther away, but they often have more flight competition. If the flight saving is large enough, the extra train leg can be worth it.

Use La Spezia as the rail gateway

Most visitors reach the villages from La Spezia by local train. Comparing the total price to La Spezia is usually more useful than comparing flights only.
